The Good Morning Thread

Good morning!

Today's mission: Read and comprehend the rules for Savage Worlds Adventure Deluxe Edition (SWADE). My first impression of flipping through the book screams: "Hey, this is what I was trying to build!", so maybe this system will finally scratch that itch I've had for years?

How was everybody's Memorial Day Weekend?

I did a lot of cooking and baking. Floured my kitchen as I transferred 55 pounds of 00 Pizza Flour into my storage buckets (don't worry, I only lost about a cup's worth), and 40 pounds of Basami Rice into a different bucket. And now I'm that exhausted, I get to go back to work for a full eight hours of absolute Hell, being the day after a holiday in the realm of Retail.

Just two more days until my glorious vacation!!

Good evening everyone. Sorry I'm so late again in saying... I've been under the weather. Have a low grade fever and horrid fatigue... Couldn't even go to DnD today ;-; But... I'm trying to sit at the computer for at least a few minutes, so thought I'd pop in~

Good morning! Happy Saturday. I'm so glad that I get to say that for once. I don't have to work today. YAY vacation! 🥰

So yesterday I read a ton of SWADE (Savage Worlds Adventure Deluxe Edition) and I was able to finally construct my first character. I have to say that despite there being more... pieces to fill in, character creation was actually quite a bit simpler than Cypher System. The spell casting mechanic may work for Magical Girls nicely as well. The Power Bolt, only consumes one Power Point, and with the Supers expansion, setting the campaign to a Four-Color realm, that gives 45 Power Points. So lots of spell slinging. To cast a spell, I simply roll my Spellcasting Skill (d8), and a Wild Dic (d6). I need at least a four (4) to succeed. (in my test just now, I got a 6 and and 6-- but that second six was on the Wild Die. I just Aced it. So I roll that one again (and got a 3). So my total was 15. Now, I have two Raises. A Raise is a multiple of 4. (8 and 12 are both Raises. So looking at the Bolt Power, ordinarily I'd do 2d6 of damage, but the Raise gives bonus damage. For Bolt, that means my Damage is increased to 3d6. Since I got two Raises I'm sure there's other effects, which are probably GM defined, since this would be a Fire Bolt, I'd say, your shirt is also on fire now-- a distraction event. My damage would be: 6,3,3 (plus an additional re-roll for the first Ace (that six, because I'm rolling d6), 3. Total damage is 6+3+3+3 =15 (minus whatever the Toughness + Armor of my opponent would be.

At least, I think I understand the system well enough. I'll hop on the Discord in a little bit and see if I can confirm my thought. I could be totally warping this. However, based on this little test with my initial character SWADE looks to be an action-packed game system that may work for Asynchronous game play. Although, I'm not sure how to deal with Bennies and the Action Cards just yet.

How was everybody's Memorial Day Weekend?

Great! I spent it with my sister and her friends sipping drinks at the beach and playing Mario Kart / Mario Party. (I am the biggest gamer grill of the group, the one of her friends is just about at my level. So we get some decent competition. ...Plus Mario Party is so chaotic it acts as an equalizer.)

I'd say, your shirt is also on fire now-- a distraction event.

😱

With ideas like that our characters will have to make a sis code agreement not to go after each other's hair each fight. x3

I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it though! I'm looking forward to remaking Mall in it if it works out. =3

...Speaking of which where'd the Discord go. Did I somehow leave that on accident? Time to go find out!

Good evening everyone I hope you're all doing well. It's currently my weekend, I work Tuesday-Saturday so I get to sleep in again tomorrow. :D I never post on forums in the morning so I can't ever say good morning lol. My stomach has been hurting off and on this evening though which isn't fun. :S Hopefully it'll feel better tomorrow.

Good morning!

Yesterday, I stepped foot into my local comic book shop. Oh boy.....

So, I'm mostly a manga girlie, but being in that shop with all those old favorite, boxes filled with adventure for the cheap!

Did you know there was an Ender's Game comic? I certainly didn't. I'll have to track it down, because the shop only had issue #3 of 5. I loved the story of Ender's Game when I was younger. Anyway, the point of this is to say that Tanya was depressed because all the presents for her birthday were arriving late-- or so she thought as of 05:00 in the morning. So, I did what any loving partner would do. I found a solution. She recently fell into the hobby of comics, and has a strong interest in them. 😊 So, I thought, I've got $10 to my name until next week. I can make this work!

Anyway, I walked in, and started poking around. I had a list of characters. I'll admit, comics aren't my strong suit. So I asked the guy at the counter for some help. He asked me what my budget was. Ten bucks. This man is a God. Not only did he find five of the comics on Tanya's list, they were all first volumes too! And because either sales were slow, it was Tanya's birthday, or he's genuinely a man with a heart of gold, he worked a deal out for me. I walked out of that store with all five of those comics.

I'll most likely be back.
After I generate more money.

Then just for shits-and-grins, as I was walking home, I ducked into my local Gaming shop, to see how much a physical copy of Savage Worlds would be. I left empty-handed, of course. Two reasons: One, I was broke, and second, they didn't have it in stock. Probably never heard of the game either. I checked on their website when I got home. It's not listed. But I did actually hold a physical copy of Cypher System in my hands, so at least I got the Dopamine from that!

I'm now looking at my apartment, at the walls, and mentally rearranging the furnishings to put up a bookshelf to fill with thousands of dollars worth of TTRPG books, with a side of manga-- Obviously!

Alrighty then!

Now that my vacation has officially ended, and I'm back to the Daily Grind, let's go over what I've actually accomplished during the past week....

I cleaned 80% of my apartment. Not really deep cleaning, but I threw away a metric ton of trash (old mail, receipts, boxes that were being used as makeshift containers) and put most everything in a designated place. We're not going to talk about my closet just yet 😅. But for the first time in months, I've been able to see my bedroom floor! So that's major progress. I also raked all the random strands of hair out of my carpets. No wonder the vacuum cleaner belt always breaks! Guys... So. Much. HAIR! Ew. And I don't have any pets! That's just from my fiancee and I.

Next, we move on the project of passion that's sucked up the majority of my free time. My TTRPG, tentatively called CHIBI. Yes, it's also an acronym, because y'all know I love my quirky abbreviations. Anyway, I've managed to write the bulk of the rules for the Dice Mechanics, and I've got most of the Cards functions figured out as well. I'm excited to play-test what I've got, but before I do that, I need to get the Character Creation process figured out, and for that, I need to brainstorm some core Skills, and figure out what kind of Skills I'm going to focus on. So much to think about here. Luckily, I can borrow a good amount of content from the 200+ other TTRPGs that I own, and there are some great possibilities contained within the thousands of Pages I have access to.

Cooking. So much cooking, well, baking. I finally managed to get myself a kitchen scale, so now I can weigh the flour and water! I never thought that I'd feel like a kid in a candy score over a freakin' scale, but here we are. This must be what old looks like. Anyway, I haven't tried pizza dough just yet using the weight recipe that I have, but I did delve into the world of making my own ramen noodles. Totally from scratch, without a pasta machine. Yeah, do I trust myselves around knives? Not really, but I've heard it's in good hands. 🙃 One thing that I did learn was that to make good ramen noodles, you must have patience. I've got that in Spades. Basically, you combine the flour, water, and salt, knead it for a couple minutes, and then stick the dough in the refrigerator for 24 hours. I've read that this will take this uber stiff substance and relax it-- like my shoulders after a week long vacation. Are we beginning to notice a pattern here? I did. After the dough rests, then you knead it out and flatten it until it's like 1/16" think. Not sure I can get my dough that thin, but I'll certainly get it as thin as possible. And apparently, I don't even have to use a rolling pin! I can just massage the dough inside of a double-layered bag with my feet. This appears to be a common practice in many Japanese homes-- or they just break down and spend the $140 on a Pasta Machine. Anyway, after the dough has been steamrolled, it's time to cut it. lots of corn starch, fold it like a fan, and then very carefully make three-millimeter slices to form the noodles. I'm going to guesstimate that this process is going to consume like five hours. Bonus tip: You're going to want a really sharp knife.

In other news, my fiancee has been battling an infected tooth over the past three days (as of today). She finally convinced herself to go to the Urgent Care today to get the needed antibiotics. I encouraged her to go yesterday too, but... I'm not her Commander. Hopefully she'll be fine, although our budget probably won't be. I'm going to be working a lot of extra hours this week in hopes that I can make up the deficit. Right now, I'm projecting about a $100 short for our July Rent. Thank the Gods that I paid the cellphone bills for the entire year back in January. Anyway, maybe she can find a dentist that will take her insurance so that she can get that issue resolved permanently.

As for today, my goal is to not get totally stressed out from work. It is a Saturday after all, and we have all the Crazies coming in to the store, and my poor feet already ache just thinking about being on the all day long. Ah well.

Daily Roll: 16!
Maybe today will be a good day after all?

Good morning!

Just as I thought, the morning after my first day of work has severe consequences.
OMG... my ankle, feels like I twisted it or something. I know I haven't. But the bulge on the inside part of my foot hurts to the touch. It's probably just an inflamed ligament. I've got four more days of standing to endure. Time to call up the Tylenol and Ibuprofen ... again.

And Retail is brutal! On the way home last night, I promptly totally fell asleep on the bus and the subway. As usual, but despite my best efforts to stay awake. Yesterday just totally wore me out completely.

Here's to a better day today!

Good morning everyone. I recently started a new supplement, Ashwagandha yesterday. I heard a lot of great things about it, so I'm hoping that it does well for me.

How has everyone's week been thus far?

Good evening (because I didn't think to get on this morning)! I'm actively at a movie watch party on discord with some friends. It's been fun so far! I also went out on Thursday (like, physically) for a meal with my aide and her family. That was fun, even if I couldn't talk to them a lot due to language barrier. They were really sweet people and I felt right at home. :)

Good morning!

Yesterday, I finally figured out what my group of Misfits were going to wear. I also created an undercover role for them! This is starting to look like a spy novel I'm drafting! LOL Anyway, it's quite challenging to dream up mundane, boring "monsters" and "challenges" for these Misfits to be trusted to fight, because normal magical girls would probably snub their noses at this level of foe. Ah, the joys of writing comedy!

So, I'll go to work and passively brainstorm some more while I'm running around like a headless chicken...

Good evening everyone! Today is Father's Day, I wish my dad a happy father's day but we also had some plumbing issues come up so my father in law spent most of his day trying to unclog the sink in my wife and I's kitchen and failed. We have to call in a plumber, they're supposed to be here tomorrow afternoon sometime after 2 pm. :S

My, it's been a couple of days, hasn't it?

I've made some significant progress on my novel-- planning, that is. I've developed the second draft for a backstory of my vampire character, and dreamed up a concept for a paranoid conspiracy theorist character. I'm finding that writing the backstories of the primary triggering event is really helping hone in the Voice of each character.

I'm also looking into maybe getting Plottr, but I haven't decided if I need that level of organization for my novel series yet.

Daily Roll: 18!

Have a GREAT day!

Good evening everyone! My wife is out of town with her narcissistic mother so I'm sure she's not having a good time. I'm also missing her, thankfully she's coming home tomorrow. The plumbing issues have been resolved but the floor in front of the basement door needs to be addressed.

Glad you got your plumbing issues resolved!

Today has been a productive day, and it's only 08:00!

I made my own homemade Ginger Ale -- we'll see how it turns out in a couple days!
I made more chocolate syrup.
And I'm making home fries for breakfast.

God, my foot is killing me. I hope I can get my foot inside my boot later, otherwise, I'll have to call out!

Good morning!

You all have the pleasure of putting up with me ALLLLLLLLL day today! Why?
Because I don't know what I did to my right foot, but the entire forward half of my foot is swollen and lightly red. It hurts to the lightest of touches on the littlest toes, in fact, I can't even move those three littlest toes. I can't put any weight on that foot either besides the heel.

Now comes my left foot. The inside of my ankle hurts, but at least I can move it and put weight on it, but it hurts, like a lot.

My job involves being on my feet for eight hours. Either standing counting items on customer carts for Quality Assurance or running around like a headless chicken assisting the other cashiers. Today, I simply can not do it.

What's even worse is that I don't have the funds to go to an Urgent Care. Yeah, I've got insurance-- I think? I hope it hasn't lapsed. Because luckily, I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow for an unrelated gut/bladder/intestine/colon? issue, but this is more important, so I'll be sure to mention it as well-- assuming I can GET to the doctor's office. Transportation isn't an issue because I can use the MBTA to get to the doctor's office, but just walking could be a problem.

So anyway, that's what I'll be dealing with today, in all my unhinged glory, and pain, and whatever resembles for a life, and a lack of the $96 that I would have earned by going to my job today (after taxes). Maybe in between Ibuprofen doses, I'll be able to do some brainstorming or something?

Daily roll: 8
PS. Does anybody know a decent desk job available? 😅

Oof I'm sorry you're going through this. :( I would look at Indeed and see if there's call center jobs, since they're entry level ones. They're super stressful unfortunately since you have to deal with customers but at least you'll be dealing with them on the phone and sitting down in a cubicle rather than in person and on your feet! How did your doctor's appointment go?
