Preferred Software

Every writer has their preferred way in which they write. Some people like to use fancy writing applications with all kinds of extra bells and whistles, others prefer just a robust word processor. Some people like simplicity, and will use something simple, like Notepad. And finally, there's the rebels, the authors that still prefer to write the old fashioned way with a good ole pad of paper and a trusty quill (or Bic pen, even!).

Personally, I've written using all of the above ways I've mentioned, but the tools that I prefer, has to be hands down, Scrievener. I really like the ability to plot as I go, and to write each scene as a separate compartment that I can move around without having to rely on cut/paste. I think it was one of the best $60 investments I've made in terms of writing.

Now the question I have is, what the hell am I going to do with an entire box of printer paper and 200 pencils?

I use Microsoft Word to do my writing.

I usually write directly in the message editing box for whatever site I'm replying on! I'll occasionally CTRL+A and then CTRL+C to prevent data lost. But when I'm not doing that, I usually just use notepad. It's not... great. But it loads fast and it's usually just used as a transitionary app to store my writing in until I'm ready to move it elsewhere. It also saves your work automatically in the event of unexpected crashes or loss of power or something. Occasionally I'll use Google Docs, but mostly only when I'm asked to.

I'm curious about better programs, but there are some elements of posts such as text colors, templates, and images that I don't expect to work in external programs. Which would create some unnecessary frustration for me I feel.

Whenever I need to write up an article for my website or if I need to write a script for my Youtube channel I use OpenOffice Writer so I use a word processor when I want to write something up!
