We know different role playing systems use different dice mechanics to determine random results, in most cases. The most popular die is the d6. It's common among board games like Monopoly (I despise that game!), but the d20 is also fairly popular, thanks to Dungeon & Dragons, along with the popularity of the OGL (Open Gaming License). But there are options to consider when looking at the dice probability curve. How many dice you throw also affects the result, and if you're using a Dice Pool, typically, you're only counting the number of sixes (on a d6). Games like Shadow Run utilize this mechanic, and while it's fun to throw nineteen gazillion dice everywhere, counting them is a pain in the ass. Anyway...
Do you have a preferred dice mechanic? I personally like Percentile, and roll under, but I've read that many people rather enjoy the stability a good old fashioned d6 gives them.
