Shadow Run is one of my favorite games, set in the year 2070 (Fourth Edition) as a cyberpunk classic. One of my favorite characters.. was an unarmed martial artist, heavy weapons specialist with a serious uncouth attitude problem. I love the diversity of quirks that your character can have, and the range of cybernetic enhancements you can choose from. In fact, that reminds me of the one time, we had a new guy checking out the game. The group of four of us were in mid game while he was browsing through the books and right in the middle of a dangerous combat scene, he just busts out in a loud fit of uncontrollable laughter. We stopped the game because he was literally turning blue from laughing so hard. Ten minutes later (what seemed to be an eternity), he finally composes himself enough to point out the offensive text:

Pneumatic Penis

But as fun as that game is, there's one thing I don't care for. Dice pools. The combat is clunky, to say it best. You end up rolling like 30 dice, and then count all the fives and sixes. Who ever has the largest count, wins. But then you have to factor in the Armor...yet another Dice Pool. Give me my 2d6 any day.

However, one thing I loved about running a game of Shadow Run is a little gem found in one of the expansion books. Contacts & Adventures. There's a handy-dandy Mission Generator tucked near the back, and you could quickly make up an A-Team style mission in a matter of five minutes. I wish more games had this sort of set up. It would make running games more appealing to new GM's, I think.

Have you had a chance to play Shadow Run? Let's hear about it!
