AI, or Artificial Intelligence is probably here to stay within our modern world, and it's popping up everywhere. I got to thinking, there's extensions being made that support an AI type of chat bot, that we could use when there's a lull in member participation. We could also use an AI to help with canon character personalities.

But, I also realize this is a hot topic right now, and I'm not entirely convinced that this would be a 100% good thing to add. After all, we are a creative writing forum, and most of us enjoy the process of creating fiction from our own imaginations, and attempting to stay in-character is part of the fun and challenge of role playing for us.

So what are your thoughts about adding an AI responder?

I would hate to see AI invade our creative sanctuary. We don't need it. It sucks and only produces rehashed fluff. Anything it posts wouldn't really add to the ongoing plot and it would destroy our stories.

for fun i dont see why not but not to replace everything ofc

I'm pretty torn on this one. AI could definitely help when things get quiet and might nail character voices but isn't the whole point that we're creating stuff ourselves? Half the fun is figuring out how to write characters and getting better at it. Maybe AI could work for like background NPCs or something minor but I'd hate to lose that personal creative touch that makes our stories actually ours.

I've heard horror stories about people using chatgpt to write their roleplay responses for them... I think that is a line that should not be crossed in this hobby. These bots are fundamentally incapable of putting the human touch and intent into writing that I've grown to love so much.

Yeah, I can see where other people are agreeing with it, but I voted not sure because my creative skills suck after having used AI.

Gonna have to stay neutral on this one.

I've used AI in the past. Today, I only use AI for brainstorming, cleaning up/organizing outlines (pre-writing stuff) and initial research that I later go back through and validate by hand.

Just yesterday, I was looking for a Random Generator book, and AI suggested a book with a title and an author's name. I thought, cool! Here's a possible gem. Went to go find it, yeah...I can't find it anywhere! AI probably hallucinated. That's probably why AI won't be made a part of the forum, despite what cool things we could do with it.

I feel it's half baked.

AI probably hallucinated.
It does that a lot (which isn't necessarily that's surprising).

I feel it's half baked.
That's honestly what I think too. And in my case, sometimes I'll use AI for vibe coding stuff, and never understand why people dislike it so much. Of course it's going to be half baked. Generally speaking, it's a bad idea for anyone to just put AI-generated code directly into what they want to produce.

When I vibe coded little web projects, I would be a complete fool to copypaste a huge chunk of AI-generated code into my codebase if I didn't check to make sure there weren't security flaws.

So, I definitely agree that there may be some use to it, but I'm still maintaining my old vote.

Eh I'm not the biggest fan of people using AI bots on forums, it feels a bit weird to me. I've joined a forum that had more AI bots creating replies than humans.
